historian Kevan Frazier is currently compiling a book of legendary
locals of Asheville and is looking for your help! He is assembling
images of the newsworthy and noteworthy individuals and groups who have
built and shaped Asheville and the stories that go with them to include
in an upcoming book to be published by Arcadia Publishing
in their new Legendary Locals imprint. To share your photographs and

![Altrusa Club of Waynesville will host the Seventeenth Annual Soup & Cornbread Scholarship Fund-raiser on Tuesday, January 28th from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at @[372991210841:274:First United Methodist Church of Waynesville] The lunch or dinner will include homemade soup (vegetable or potato), fresh cornbread, a beverage and your choice of homemade dessert.
Advance or at the door tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. The meals are available for take out or eat in.
Altrusa International of Waynesville is part of an international organization. Founded in 1917, Altrusa is a volunteer service organization of business and professional leaders, dedicated to improving their communities by personal service. Last year, Altrusans proudly gave over a million volunteer hours around the world, including clubs in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, England, Bermuda, Ireland, India, Scotland, New Zealand and Russia.

![We hope you won't miss the opening reception for @[59577265158:274:Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center]'s new exhibit, Cynthia Homire: Vision Quest, this Friday, Jan. 24th from 5:30-7:30 pm.
This exhibition examines and honors the work of poet, potter and visual artist Cynthia Homire, now in her early 80s. Homire was a student at Black Mountain College from 1950-1954, where she studied with Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, and M.C. Richards, among many others. Of her time at BMC, Homire says:
The artist will be present. Admission is free.
