The Emporium Center Gallery at 100 S Gay St, Knoxville, TN will host my exhibit Mind Heart and the City from April 6 to April 27, 2018.
The exhibit consists of street photography that was shot on both black and white and color film between 2007 and 2017. Although the use of film is not central to the project, the intent was to rediscover the 20th century humanist approach of exploring and documenting city life through the employment of old manual film cameras.
The show documents the city of Asheville's latest experience with gentrification while striving to maintain the diversity of its bohemian mountain culture. The images reveal a people and culture experiencing a paradigm shift as it transitions into the new millennium. The show will be a mix of approximately 50 black and white and color silver gelatin prints focusing on the immediate downtown section of the burgeoning city. The exhibit will feature photographs from the books Mind heart and the City and The Last Memory. Books are available for purchase at the gallery and online. For purchases online please visit joelongobardiphotography.com/books or singingbirdbooks.com/books.
Copies of photographs on exhibit and in my books are available for order as archival injet prints and C-prints by personal request. Silver Gelatin prints are available as special requests that would include a partial down payment as these are produced by hand in a darkroom setting.
